The Power of Description

Welcome to the Power of Description.

Throughout the course of human events, the power of description has shaped what it means to be human.

It has has come to define who we are, where we live, what we do, and how we react to and perceive others and the world/universe around us.

What are universally considered the greatest of human achievements and ingenuity, or intelligence are often perfect examples of the power of description.

This site catalogs some of the more interesting of those examples.

How does it work?

To begin, lets do a little describing of PowerOfDescription.com and its function.
At is core, this site is a Catalog of examples of "the power of description".

Whats an example?

Let's pick an easy one. Remember I said the greatest achievements were often examples of the power of description. They are more commonly known as Discoveries. However I have a different definition of Discovery.

Discovery:the act of describing a previously unknown but undeniably obvious fact once properly described.

The discovery itself is unimportant, it is only in the communication of that discovery through description that is of any import. Global implications are not implied by your discovery if not accurately described to anyone else. Notice the accurately in there, the credibility of the descriptor is not reliant on anything but by the accuracy of the description. Even crazy nut-jobs are right when they are right.

Lets take one such "Discovery" at random, and craft a rudimentary Power of Description example.

Power of Description: Gravity

Principal Descriptor: Newton

Power Example:
Before the accurate description of Gravity, The orbits and rotations of the planets and moons of our solar system cannot be accurately described.

Now that's not very interesting or thorough, and therefore is obviously not an acceptable submission.

However a good physicist might be able to provide a much better submission. He/She might provide an example submission that goes into greater detail of the actual moment of clarity and the ramifications it had on the physics community once it was properly described. Or the refinement to the description over time.

What happens to my Submission?

The complete unedited text of each accepted example of the power of description will be linked for future reference and research available to all.

Here at the start, Examples will be submitted by request only. This will give a good core set of example materials that are suitable for submission, sometimes annotated with a note on why they are a good submission. When there is enough source material to accurately describe a "good submission", open submission will begin via an openly published email address. Not all submission will be accepted. Only accepted submissions will be stored and linked. If your submission is accepted it will be used under the following Usage guidelines starting at the moment of the acceptance notification transmission.

Intended Usage of submissions by PowerofDescription.com:
Edited compilation into a series of articles, ebooks, books, and various other media under the Title, Heading or Product Description:

The site derives it's revenue through the sale of these published or transmitted materials. If you don't want it published, you shouldn't have sent it here. All credit will be given to submitter with links to source material where appropriate.

Are there any other rules?

No.

Further it should be stated that, Science was used as an example only to demonstrate the concept. Acceptable submissions may come from any area of expertise or component thereof, but should come from a knowledgeable and reliable and preferably notable source.

Enjoy, and Thanks for participating.
